Ubud is an hour's drive from Nusa Dua and such a different scene. The town is filled with art galleries, wood-working shops, and the vibe is much more serene and peaceful. The landscape is one of rice paddies and vibrant green grass...a far cry from the ocean just a short bit away.
We stayed at the Chedi, and it was unlike any place we've stayed before. 20 villas are scattered over a lush green oasis spanning 5 acres. Each villa has a butler and he organizes everything for you, from excursions, meals, tea, laundry, and everything else in between.
The property has only been a hotel since 2004. It was originally a home that was turned over to GHM hotels. Many of the owner's art pieces and statues still remain.
There is only one restaurant,
but with views like these, one was enough.
Our first day we took a land cruise into the heart of Bali...passing rice paddies, Balinese villages, mountains, and seeing the spectacular countryside.
We stopped to tour a Balinese home and had tea with the family who lived there.
We spent the rest of the afternoon riding around the countryside...
...and ended our tour with lunch in a treehouse in the middle of the rainforest.
So cool.
We ended our day with this view at dinner.
Doesn't get more peaceful than this.
xx,
Lauren
